Casa Amistad is a luxurious, beautifully decorated, brand new home, with all the modern conveniences and only 2 blocks from the sand and surf of the world famous break of Playa Grande.  Designed by renowned architect Richard Muller, the property includes 3 bedrooms, with two master suites, 3.5 bathrooms, private covered parking, covered outdoor living area, bbq, swimming pool, outdoor shower and much more! The tropical concept of this home blends the inside and outside allowing guests to enjoy everything that staying next to a national park and the beach has to offer.

Casa Amistad features two master suites with large bathrooms, walk in closets and showers. The third bedroom features a futon couch and triple-decker bunkbed, with large closet and bathroom. There is a 1/2 bathroom with a door leading out to the patio and pool for easy access when enjoying the outdoors. There are few private homes offering both modern conveniences as well as being this close to the beach with the most consistent surfing wave in the area!

Playa Grande Estates

 

In the heart of Playa Grande is the community known as Play Grande Estates. This neighborhood is an easy walk to the beach and the surf. Playa Grande Estates has several boutique hotels, restaurants and other small businesses.

This little town feels off the beaten path feel even though it is less than one hour from the Liberia International Airport. Casa Amistad is located in easy walking distance to the beach, restaurants, yoga, shopping, the local medical clinic, and hotels. Frijoles Locos Surf Shop is located just across the street for family rentals, surf lessons, boogie boards, surfboards, sunscreen, clothing and more.

 

 
 

About Playa Grande

 

Playa Grande is a wide, gorgeous beach, famous among nature lovers, vacationing families & surfers alike. By day, offshore winds create breathtaking waves. By night, an ancient cycle continues, as leatherback sea turtles bearing clutches of eggs follow the ocean currents back to their birthplace. The beach stretches from the Tamarindo estuary, around a dome rock - with tide pools and superb surf fishing - on to equally grand Playa Ventanas.

The pristine shoreline and crystal blue waters of Playa Grande make this one of the most beautiful beaches in Guanacaste. The town of Playa Grande is well equipped with several boutique hotels, casual and fine-dining restaurants, bars, surf shops, specialty clothing boutiques, a top-notch medical clinic and more.

Getting here

There are several options to get here, but the easiest may be to fly into Liberia International Airport and drive about 68 kilometers to Playa Grande. The Tamarindo Domestic Airport also receives domestic flights from around the country, making it easier for anyone landing at San Jose International Airport. Buses are also available from both airports to Tamarindo daily. Then you can catch a taxi to Playa Grande. We are also happy to arrange a shuttle from the airport to Casa Amistad upon your arrival.

Tours & Activities

Your Costa Rica vacation wouldn't be complete without checking out a few of the local activities.  Our guests favorites are the Leatherback Turtle tour, canopy tour, estuary tour, and sunset snorkel and sailing trip. There are also several different ways to explore Rincon de la Vieja, the closest volcano to the hotel. 

Can't make up your mind? Don't worry!  You can make all of the arrangements with us when you arrive in Playa Grande. Most tours require no more than a 24 hour lead time.  If you're a planner, then feel free to email us ahead of time and we'll have everything set up for you.  You  can rest assured that all of our tour operators are tried and true, we only work with the best so you don't need to worry.  

Once piece of advice for your Playa Grande vacation... there’ s nothing wrong with just chilling at the beach or at Casa Amistad's pool.  Put your phone down and grab a hammock!

Yoga in PLaya Grande

The beautiful beach and scenery of Playa Grande naturally makes it a peaceful sanctuary for health and wellbeing. Just a short walk from Casa Amistad, you will find the Yoga Shala at The Rip Jack Inn. The yoga space is made of beautiful teak wood, enclosed by tall glass windows and covered by a majestic palapa roof.  From the moment you enter the studio amidst the palms and bamboo gardens, you will feel calm and at ease.

The Yoga Shala at the hotel offers a variety of yoga classes at a reasonable price, including dynamic flow, restful restorative, gentle hatha and private yoga. Mats and props are provided.

In addition, we have a stable of private instructors readily available for custom and/or private lessons on the patio at Casa Amistad.

Surfing in Playa Grande

Renowned among surfers for its consistency and good mix of lefts and rights, Playa Grande is nestled within a beautiful crescent bay and known for its surf and sun. Casa Amistad is just a short walk to the main surf break. Although Playa Grande’s beach barrels hard and fast when the winds blow off shore, it is also a great spot to learn if you're new or a beginner to the sport. There are a variety of surf shops with rentals for all levels within walking distance to Casa Amistad. In addition to being steps from one of the most consistent surf spots in Central America, Casa Amistad is within driving distance to other surf breaks. 

Playa Tamarindo
One of the most famous surf spots in Costa Rica is Playa Tamarindo, which is just across the estuary to the south. People can walk to the mouth of the estuary and paddle over or catch a water taxi. Surfers with a car can drive around the estuary to surf Tamarindo. The wave at Tamarindo is slightly easier than Playa Grande, and the line up is typically more crowded.

Playa Langosta
Playa Langosta is the next beach south of Tamarindo. The best waves can be found at the river mouth. Surfers staying in Playa Grande are encouraged to drive to Playa Langosta considering the distance.

Playa Avellanas
Playa Avellanas is a 45 minute drive from Playa Grande, and given the right swell and wind conditions, this place can really go off. Surfers have three breaks to choose from: the beach access, the river mouth, and the rocky point break, Little Hawaii.

Playa Negra
The waves at Playa Negra are reserved for more experienced surfers. This reef break is famous for its fast, hollow barrels. Surfers from all over the world come to Costa Rica to catch this rocky right. 

Witch's Rock & Ollie's Point
Playa Grande is also a boat ride away from the world famous surf spots Witch’s Rock and Ollie’s Point. Grande Vacation Rentals is happy to book you a day or overnight charter so you and your buddies can catch epic surf.

Eating in PLaya Grande

For a small town, Playa Grande has a wide selection of places to eat, amazing food, good service and nothing is too far away.

The restaurants in Playa Grande offer highly unique menus of fresh local seafood, meats, Italian cuisine as well as tasty treats native to Costa Rica.

Some of our favorites include: Upstairs at The Rip Jack Inn, El Huerto, Cafe Del Pueblo, Kike's Place, Taco Star, and The Mar Bar at La Marejada Hotel. Tamarindo, just a short drive away also features a wide variety of restaurants sure to please even the most discerning palate.

If you prefer to eat in, Casa Amistad has a well stocked kitchen and Wilmart Grocery is just five minutes away. Wilmart is well stocked with all the necessities including beer, liquor, fresh eggs, cheeses and meats perfect for barbecuing.

We are happy to arrange a full catering service during your stay at Casa Amistad, if desired.
